Nickelback: Fan or Liar? That’s the slogan spotted on many a fan’s T Shirt Wednesday night at their near capacity show at The California Midstate Fair’s Chumash Grandstand Arena. The slogan no doubt takes a jab at Nickelback’s detractors but also is a shout out to the band’s devoted army of diehard fans. Those diehards were treated to a Rock Show with all the bells and whistles, heavy on the fire with a light show that surprisingly didn’t drain the city of Paso Robles of all their electricity. Throw in anthem driven sing-alongs such as “Photograph,” and “Rockstar,” then you get a Rock Show that satisfies multi generations of ticket buyers. Hits “Someday,” and “How You Remind Me,” also were set list highlights before the band’s encore of “Gotta Be Somebody,” and “Burn It To The Ground.”

Throughout the past several decades, Nickelback has scored some of the biggest rock hits in America. The band has produced plenty of smashes, and several of their most popular tunes are back on the charts this week. The songs’ returns aren’t random, as they’ve actually been facilitated by Netflix.

Nickelback’s documentary, Hate To Love: Nickelback, was recently uploaded to the streaming platform. The film enjoyed a theatrical run earlier this year, and now it’s available to subscribers in the U.S. The arrival of the movie has renewed interest in the rockers’ catalog, and they can be found on more than half a dozen of Billboard’s songs charts this week.

Five of Nickelback’s hits find their way back to various tallies. Some return to just one, while others not only reappear on a handful, but even manage to debut on lists, decades after their initial release. The effect of the documentary is easily visible, and altogether pretty impressive.

“How You Remind Me” benefits the most from the arrival of Nickelback’s film. The smash that turned them into household names all around the world appears on nine different Billboard charts this week.

The former Hot 100 champion returns to three lists this frame. It also rises on two of the hard rock-specific rosters, where it’s been charting for years. The tune manages to reach four rankings for the first time, which is impressive, considering how popular the cut has been for so long.

2023 Canadian Music Hall of Fame recipients, and Diamond-certified selling group Nickelback were named the “most successful rock band of the decade” by Billboard in 2009. Globally celebrated for their career defining and award-winning hits “How You Remind Me,” “Photograph,” “Far Away,”, “Rockstar,” and more, the four-piece comprised of Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger, and Daniel Adair is one of the most commercially viable and important acts of the past two decades. Their success includes worldwide sales of more than 50-million units, solidifying their status as one of the top-selling acts of all time and the second best-selling foreign act in the U.S., in the 2000’s decade, behind only The Beatles. Their inescapable and irresistible smash “How You Remind Me” was named Billboard’s ‘Top Rock Song of the Decade’ and was the number-one most played song on U.S. radio (any format) in the 2000’s according to Nielsen Soundscan, with over 1.2 million spins.

Amongst all of these accolades, they’ve also been named Billboard’s “Top Rock Group of the Decade” and received nine Grammy Award nominations, three American Music Awards, a World Music Award, a People’s Choice Award, twelve JUNO Awards, seven MuchMusic Video Awards, and have been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame (2007) and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame (2023). With more than 23 chart-topping singles and fans spanning the globe, Nickelback boasts more than twelve consecutive sold-out world tours, playing to well over 10 million+ diehard and adoring fans. The band recently wrapped the 52 date North American leg of the Get Rollin’ Tour on October 5th and most recently debuted the documentary Hate To Love: Nickelback at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.
