Set against the beautiful Avila Beach Resort which hugs the Pacific Ocean, 311 & Dirty Heads treated a near sellout crowd to high energetic sets that showcased both band’s hits and also newer material as both bands have released new albums in the last two months.
Dirty Heads came out first and set a feel good tone that quickly connected to the audience. “Cabin By The Sea,” “Lay Me Down” and “Super Moon” from the groups new CD were highlights of the set.
311 proved why they have been tearing up concert stages for three decades as they opened up with a trifecta of “Beautiful Disaster,” “All Mixed Up,” and “Come Original.” Frontman Nick Hexum sets himself apart with charisma that other bands from his genre lack.
Brand new material “What The!?” and “Stainless” from the group’s 13th CD “Voyager” kept the crowd engaged and blended in with the older material nicely. “Applied Science” (from 1994’s Grassroots) saw the entire band join in on drummer Chad Sexton’s solo on two stand up kits.“Amber,” “Creatures,” and the rousing “Down” closed out the set.
Dirty Heads and 311 have partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every ticket will go to organizations bringing dignity, equity, and access to communities who need it.
Multi-platinum rock band 311 have released their new album, and second with BMG, titled VOYAGER on July 12.
Ahead of the release, the group premiered the new track ‘What The?!’."
’What The?!’ is 311 in full jam band mode,” says lead singer Nick Hexum. “This one is super fun to play live with lots of tasty riffs from the mind of Tim Mahoney. He does some ripping soloing in this one. Lyrically, it’s a grab-bag of random stream-of-conscience mostly from SA. It’s about navigating life's travails to find the sweet stuff. Looking forward to playing this one under the stars!”
VOYAGER is 311’s 13th studio album and features (appropriately enough) 13 new songs. Following 2017’s Mosaic, VOYAGER is the second consecutive 311 album to feature production work by both Grammy-nominated producer John Feldmann (Blink-182, Panic! At the Disco) and Scotch Ralston, who produced 311 albums Transistor, Soundsystem and Stereolithic. Upon its debut, Mosaic entered The Billboard 200 at number six, making it the band’s 10th straight Top 10 album.
Dirty Heads Announce New Album, "Super Moon" and Release Lyric Video for Title Track
Southern California’s alternative rock band Dirty Heads have released their seventh studio album, Super Moon, on Friday, August 9, worldwide through Five Seven Records. To celebrate, the band has unveiled lyric video for title track “Super Moon.”
The album was produced by four-time Grammy®-winning Nashville, Tennessee-based super producer Dave Cobb (A Star is Born soundtrack, Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson), and features the title track, “Super Moon,” which vocalist Jared “Dirty J” Watson describes as “a 70’s sci-fi kung fu Western car chase soundtrack. It gives you a look into the sonics, tone, and creative narrative of this album. It was all recorded live in the same room to tape in Studio A in the old RCA building in Nashville, Tennessee, where legends like Johnny Cash and Elvis recorded a lot of their work.
“The artwork was meant to spook some folk, definitely. The running joke in the studio was, ‘Don’t worry, we aren’t doing a country album,’ but we were inspired by the city and the studio and the artists who recorded there before us. Dave Cobb produced, and he was perfect for where we are mentally for this album. He’s a purist. He runs on pure creativity. No rules, no boundaries, no structures — a mantra that we have also tried to live by. Also playing and recording the songs live makes you really rely on yourself and your strengths. I’ve never loved an album from front to back so much in our career. We hope you enjoy.”
