Angels & Saints-

7 Deadly Sins Fashion Week Ventura 2010

All Photos by Amanda Peacock

The 4th Annual Fashion Week Ventura took place last Saturday night, February 6, at The Elks Lodge on Main Street in downtown Ventura.

The event is a fundraiser for AIDS Project Ventura County, and is the brainchild of Architexture Salon owner Erika Harding who, after loosing her brother to AIDS many years ago was compelled to do something to help. The outcome was Fashion Week Ventura 2007.

The Elks Lodge was donated by Zoeys Cafe, and I thought it was the PERFECT place for this event (having been involved with the project for the last two years at another venue).

The theme of the show was Angels and Saints, and the Seven Deadly Sins.

Some of the things that stood out for me were the Seven Sins (models dressed as Greed, Gluttony, Sloth, Lust...), a sexy dance group called The Pin Down Girls, and the incredible "angel wings", designed for the show by local artist Raeal Woodfork, that were attached to most of the models.

The clothing was an eclectic mix of bizarre.... and wearable! Most fashion shows offer entertainment for the eyes, but usually not much that the person attending can actually afford and purchase. It really felt good to for me to see a dress on a model that I had just purchased at LUXE Emporium (Downtown Ventura) the day before the show.

Special appearances were made by "Saints" in the community such as Matt Cooper of Many Meals of Santa Paula, Alec Loorez of Kids vs Global Warming and our very own Mayor, Mr. Bill Fulton.

There was fashion, music, and art involved in everything that we experienced!

A huge amount of work and time went into producing this event, and many, many volunteers.

Everyone involved should feel great about what they accomplished.

Congrats to Erika Harding, and all of the other volunteers who gave of their time and talents to make it happen. You all did a wonderful thing to help others!
