Say Anything, Eisley

November 22nd

Troubadour, Hollywood

The Troubadour had the pleasure of hosting the Say Anything tour on Sunday November 22nd, and Rock it they did!  Miniature Tigers started the party playing through their MySpace fan favorites and beginning the buzz with the anticipation of the headliner.  They even took their show to the audience, taking giant drums and playing them in the crowd, removing that stage/floor 4th wall.  Next up was the full blow known as Moneen rocking out to their latest album, The World I Want To leave Behind, who continued to, much to the fans delight, disrespect that space between the fans and the band.  They did however, to both mine and the crowd’s glee, play "Are We Really Happy With Who We Are Right Now" from their junior album with the same name.

The third band of the evening was the melodically rich and family oriented Eisley.  I will try to sustain my absolute adoration for this talented group but you can't deny the very apparent mastery of music each member holds. Whether it's Weston keeping full robust beats of time on the drums, Garron pulsing the glue of each tune by thumping heavily on his bass, Sherri's brilliant harmonies with the piano queen herself Stacy or Chauntelle's often surprising yet lovely vocals and wailing guitar; they all have a connection, a pull that brings their own brilliant musical abilities together and allows the audience to enjoy them as one. Making way through their newer Combinations album with "I Could Be There For You" and "Invasion" as well as hits off their freshman disc Room Noises of "Golly Sandra", "I Wasn't Prepared for This", "Marvelous Things", and "Many Funerals". We musn't forget the long awaited debut of tracks off their soon (hopefully) to be junior effort such as "The Valley", "Ambulance", and the husband-wife duo of Sherri and Max Bemis (Say Anything) with "Smarter". You won't meet a nicer band/family and their manager/dad is just as much a fan as the whole lot of them.

Finally, as if the crowd have probably died of excitement Say Anything took the stage and took both floors of this history ridden venue by the waist and danced wildly.  Making their way through their latest self-titled release, Say Anything, the fans both in the front row and the back (and the drunk guy at the bar) shouted every word to every song.  These were the good fans, the hardcore fans, and the ones that have been waiting for SA to grace the small stage for the most intimate show.

Overall, quite an evening!  Miniature Tigers didn't disappoint and rounded the bill out nicely with their chill, poppy beats. Moneen was a sight to be seen, acting out every ounce of passion I've heard their songs bestow for so long. Eisley is and always is a pleasure on the ears and I cannot help but beam at their carefully placed notes so brilliantly arranged.  Say Anything was a riot, a ridiculous blast of wittied lyrics and guitar riffs to match; truly a band with engergy and passion to boot.
